About Pathao

Pathao is the largest digital platform for ride-sharing, food delivery, and e-commerce logistics in Bangladesh and Nepal, central to how millions of people move around, order food, and get goods delivered. Hussain Elius, Fahim Saleh, and Shifat Adnan founded the company in 2015, building it from a delivery service for Bangladeshi e-commerce firms into a multi-service platform spanning transportation, food, logistics, and fintech.

Fahim Ahmed, who leads the company today as Managing Director and CEO, joined Pathao not as a founder but as a finance and investment professional with nearly two decades of experience behind him. His path to the top job ran through several years of scaling the company from the inside, first as CFO, then as President, before taking over as CEO in late 2021.

Finance Before Founders

Fahim Ahmed graduated from Middlebury College in the United States and built more than eighteen years of experience across finance, investment, and operations roles in Bangladesh, South Asia, and the US. He worked as an investor at the Royal Bank of Scotland and American Securities, and as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs in New York.

That background gave him exposure to how capital moves through mature markets, experience that would later prove useful evaluating and scaling a fast-growing consumer platform in an emerging one.

Building Bangladesh's First Mid-Market Fund

Before joining Pathao, Fahim Ahmed served as Managing Director at SEAF, a global emerging-market investment firm, where he co-founded and managed the first mid-market investment fund in Bangladesh. That work put him directly in contact with the country's growth-stage companies, including the ones later shaping its digital economy.

It also gave him a vantage point most operating executives don't have: years spent evaluating other companies' growth plans before running one himself, an outside perspective that shaped how he approached Pathao's own scaling decisions once he joined.

Joining Pathao as CFO

Fahim Ahmed joined Pathao in early 2018 as Chief Financial Officer, stepping into a company that was still scaling its ride-sharing and delivery operations across Bangladesh. By mid-2020, he had taken on the role of President, overseeing day-to-day operations through the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, a period that reshaped demand for delivery and logistics almost overnight.

That stretch tested Pathao's operational resilience directly, and Fahim Ahmed was responsible for keeping the platform running as consumer behavior shifted rapidly toward on-demand delivery, a period that ultimately strengthened the case for the food and logistics side of the business he would later lead as CEO.

Becoming CEO

Fahim Ahmed was appointed Managing Director and CEO of Pathao on November 1, 2021. Under his leadership, the platform has grown to serve more than 8 million users, supported by a network of roughly 300,000 drivers and delivery agents, 30,000 merchants, and 10,000 restaurants.

That scale has made Pathao the largest digital platform spanning ride-sharing, food delivery, e-commerce logistics, and fintech services across both Bangladesh and Nepal, a footprint built on the operational and financial groundwork Fahim Ahmed helped lay years before he took the top job.

Where Pathao Stands Today

Nearly a decade after its 2015 founding, Pathao remains Bangladesh's most recognizable multi-service digital platform, with employee reviews pointing to a positive hiring process and strong domestic compensation as consistent strengths. That combination of scale and platform breadth, few competitors in the region span ride-sharing, food, logistics, and fintech under one brand, has kept Pathao central to Bangladesh's digital consumer economy under Fahim Ahmed's leadership, even as new entrants continue to compete for individual pieces of that broader platform.

Products

Pathao's platform spans transportation, delivery, and financial services rather than a single vertical.

Pathao Rides is the company's original ride-sharing service, connecting passengers with drivers across Bangladesh and Nepal.

Pathao Food is an on-demand food delivery service that has grown into one of the largest platforms of its kind in Bangladesh since its 2018 launch.

Pathao Courier provides e-commerce logistics and parcel delivery for merchants, supporting the roughly 30,000 merchants active on the platform.

Pathao Pay extends the platform into fintech services, reflecting Pathao's evolution from a single-service delivery company into a broader digital ecosystem.

Across rides, food, courier logistics, and payments, Pathao's product lineup reflects the multi-service platform strategy that has defined the company since Fahim Ahmed's tenure began, supported by a network of hundreds of thousands of drivers, merchants, and delivery agents across Bangladesh and Nepal.
