About Tareq Hasan

Tareq Hasan is a Bangladeshi software engineer and entrepreneur best known as the Founder and CTO of weDevs, one of Bangladesh's most successful bootstrapped WordPress product companies.

He is also Co-Founder and CTO of Dokan Inc. and FlyWP. Over more than fifteen years of building web software, he has helped create some of the most widely used WordPress and WooCommerce tools in the world, including Dokan Multivendor, now used by hundreds of thousands of online stores.

Early Life and Career

Tareq Hasan studied Computer Science and Engineering at Rajshahi University, where he earned his BSc (Honours). He started writing code long before it mattered to anyone but him, building small WordPress plugins around 2008 while still a student, mostly to solve problems he ran into on his own projects.

One of those early plugins, WP User Frontend, quietly picked up traction on WordPress.org and gave him an early signal that there was a real audience for the tools he was building.

During this period he also started a WordPress blog with a university friend, Nizam Uddin, writing about plugin development, theming, and the kind of practical fixes WordPress users were searching for. That blog became the seed of weDevs.

Founding weDevs

Tareq Hasan and Nizam Uddin formally launched weDevs in May 2012, working out of a rented house in Rajshahi. It wasn't a well-funded startup with a launch event. It was two developers turning a side project into a company because they believed there was a market for well-built WordPress products.

After graduating, they relocated the operation to Dhaka in late 2013 and committed to it full-time. As CTO, Hasan has led the engineering side of weDevs since day one, shaping both its technical architecture and its product roadmap.

Building Dokan and the Product Suite

weDevs' defining product is Dokan Multivendor, the first fully-featured multi-vendor marketplace plugin built on WooCommerce. Before Dokan, anyone wanting to run an Amazon or Etsy-style marketplace on WordPress had few solid options.

Dokan filled that gap and has grown into one of the best-known open-source multivendor plugins in the WordPress ecosystem, powering marketplaces across e-commerce, services, and digital products.

Beyond Dokan, Hasan has been involved in building out weDevs' wider product suite, including WP User Frontend, WP ERP, HappyAddons, weMail, and Appsero, and later co-founded FlyWP, a managed WordPress hosting and server management platform, and Sokrio Technologies. Today, weDevs' products are used by more than 520,000 businesses and site owners worldwide.

Product Philosophy

Hasan has consistently pushed weDevs toward building products rather than taking on client work, a decision that shaped the company's entire trajectory. Instead of chasing one-off contracts, weDevs focused on plugins and SaaS tools that could scale to hundreds of thousands of users without a proportional increase in team size, staying bootstrapped rather than raising outside funding.

That approach has let the company grow on its own terms while keeping its engineering team close to the products it builds.

He is also a WordPress core contributor and maintains the Bengali translation of WordPress, reflecting a long-standing involvement in the open-source community beyond just building commercial products on top of it.

Public Speaking and Industry Influence

Hasan speaks regularly at WordCamps and developer events across the region, including WordCamp Dhaka and WordCamp Malaysia, where he has appeared on keynote panels discussing his work on weDevs, Dokan, and FlyWP.

His talks tend to focus on the practical side of running a WordPress product company: technical scaling, open-source contribution, and building a global user base from outside the usual startup hubs.

Legacy

Tareq Hasan's work with weDevs helped prove that a WordPress product company built from Rajshahi and Dhaka could compete globally without venture funding.

Dokan Multivendor remains one of the most recognizable Bangladeshi-built software products in use today, and weDevs' broader product suite continues to be a reference point for other Bangladeshi founders building software for international markets.
