About Tanvir A Mishuk

Tanvir A Mishuk is the Founder and former Managing Director of Nagad, the mobile financial service he built in partnership with Bangladesh Post Office. As The Business Standard reported, he later guided Nagad's plans to surrender its NBFI license in favor of becoming the country's first licensed digital bank.

From Telecom to Financial Inclusion

Mishuk graduated with a degree in Business Administration from North South University in Dhaka. He began his career in telecommunications, founding Telekom Asia in Singapore in 2009, well before mobile financial services became a major growth category in Bangladesh.

That telecom background gave him early exposure to how mobile networks could carry more than voice and data, a foundation he later applied directly to financial services.

Launching Nagad

In 2019, Mishuk played the central role in launching Nagad, a mobile financial service built through a partnership with Bangladesh Post Office rather than a traditional bank. That structure gave Nagad a distribution advantage other MFS providers didn't have, reaching customers through post office infrastructure already present across the country.

Under his leadership, Nagad grew to more than 80 million users, becoming, as Prothom Alo has covered, a billion-dollar company within roughly three years of launch.

Building Toward a Digital Bank

Mishuk later oversaw Nagad's push into Nagad Digital Bank PLC, positioning the company to become Bangladesh's first digital bank rather than remaining solely a mobile wallet provider. That shift meant reworking Nagad's regulatory structure, moving away from its original non-bank financial institution license toward a full banking framework.

He has also founded RegTech Bangladesh, a company focused on compliance automation and financial technology solutions, extending his work in financial inclusion into the regulatory infrastructure that supports it.

A National Benchmark

Nagad's growth under Mishuk has been widely described as a national benchmark for inclusive finance and digital innovation in Bangladesh. He has continued to speak publicly about the mobile financial services sector's role in the country's broader digital economy, including its contribution during the Covid-19 pandemic when digital payments became essential for many households.
