About Fida Haq

Fida Haq is the Co-Founder and CEO of shurjoMukhi Limited, the FinTech company behind shurjoPay, widely recognized as Bangladesh's first online payment gateway. As The Business Standard has reported, his work with shurjoPay has been central to building trust in digital payments and e-commerce across the country.

A Medical Doctor's Path Into FinTech

Haq trained as a Medical Doctor before shifting his career toward technology, later earning an MS in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bilkent University between 1988 and 1991. That combination, medical training paired with engineering study, is an unusual background for a payments-industry founder.

It gave him a working knowledge of both structured clinical systems and technical infrastructure, a mix he later brought to building financial technology rather than practicing medicine.

Founding shurjoMukhi

Haq co-founded shurjoMukhi Limited in 2010, setting out to build Bangladesh's e-commerce payment infrastructure at a time when online transactions in the country had almost no reliable gateway to route through. The company launched shurjoPay as its flagship product, an online payment gateway built to collect payments from customers on behalf of e-merchants.

In January 2016, shurjoMukhi became a licensed Payment System Operator under Bangladesh Bank, formalizing its role in the country's financial infrastructure rather than operating as an unregulated intermediary.

Industry Recognition

Under Haq's leadership, shurjoMukhi won the regional championship at the Seedstars World Competition in 2020, along with the Champion title at both the BASIS National ICT Awards and the APICTA Awards in 2019. That run of recognition came during a period when shurjoPay was competing against a growing field of payment gateways entering Bangladesh's e-commerce market.

Building Beyond Payments

Haq has also extended his fintech and technology work into agriculture, introducing adorsho praniSheba Limited, a connected-cattle network that offers insurance to farmers based on livestock health monitoring. That venture reflects a pattern in his career of applying financial technology infrastructure to sectors well outside traditional banking and e-commerce.

Haq continues to lead shurjoMukhi and shurjoPay today, working to expand the reach of a payment gateway that helped establish the trust layer much of Bangladesh's e-commerce industry now depends on.
