About Southtech Group

Southtech Group is one of the earliest software companies to operate in Bangladesh, founded in 1996 by Syed Mamnun Quader at a point when the country's software industry barely existed. What started as a small local IT company has grown into an international ICT solution provider and one of the first CMMI Level 5 - V2.0 appraised IT service providers in Bangladesh.

Syed Mamnun Quader's path into the company ran through more than a decade of international banking rather than a technical background, an unusual route into founding one of the country's foundational software businesses.

A Career Built in London Banking First

Syed Mamnun Quader started his career in 1983 as a bank management trainee in London, going on to work for Banque Nationale de Paris Plc in London, Banque Paribas in London, and Investcorp Bank EC in Bahrain across retail, commercial, and investment banking. He holds an MBA from Cass Business School in London, earned during this stretch of his finance career.

By the mid-1990s, after roughly a decade in banking, he had grown increasingly interested in technology, and in late 1995 decided to relocate to Bangladesh, a move that marked the real start of his entrepreneurial career.

Founding Southtech From Close to Zero

Syed Mamnun Quader founded Southtech Limited in 1996, at a point when there was very little software development activity in Bangladesh to speak of. The company had to build both its technical capability and its market from close to zero, with no established playbook to follow.

That early positioning gave Southtech a long head start over software companies that entered the Bangladeshi market years later, and it's part of why the company still describes itself around its founding-era motto: think software, think Southtech.

Growing Into a Six-Entity Group

Under Syed Mamnun Quader's leadership, Southtech evolved from a small local IT company into an international ICT solution provider. Southtech Group today comprises six entities, two based in Bangladesh and four operating in other countries, delivering customized software solutions, customer support and maintenance, UX/UI design, data center hosting, and consultancy and training services.

Along the way, Syed Mamnun Quader was responsible for the creation of a number of financial and enterprise software products now used in both domestic and global markets, building the CMMI Level 5 process discipline that has become one of the group's defining credentials.

A Founding Voice in BASIS

Syed Mamnun Quader is a Founding Member of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services, the country's national trade body for software and IT-enabled services, and later served as its Senior Vice President. He has also served as an Independent Director on the Board of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited and as a Director at the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

That mix of building his own company and shaping industry policy has made him a recognizable figure well beyond Southtech's own client roster.

Recognition as an ICT Pioneer

In 2022, The Daily Star named Syed Mamnun Quader ICT Pioneer of the Year for 2021, recognition that reflected nearly three decades spent building one of Bangladesh's foundational software companies. He is widely regarded as an iconic figure in the country's tech industry, not for a single breakout product, but for having been present, and building, since before there was much of an industry to speak of.

Nearly three decades after its founding, Southtech Group maintains a 95 percent repeat client rate, a figure that reflects the kind of long-term, relationship-driven enterprise software work the company has specialized in since 1996. Employee reviews point to a stable, process-driven workplace, consistent with a company built around CMMI-level discipline rather than fast-moving consumer product cycles.
