About Shohoz

Shohoz is a Bangladeshi super app that grew from an online ticketing service into a platform spanning ridesharing, deliveries, and travel bookings. Maliha M Quadir founded the company in 2014, bringing an international investment banking and strategy background rather than a transportation industry one to how the platform was built.

She has been recognized as one of the top female founders globally for the scale of capital she raised for the company, an unusual distinction among Bangladeshi tech founders.

An International Finance Career First

Maliha M Quadir was born and raised in Dhaka before studying in the United States, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and Economics from Smith College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Her early career took her into investment banking, working on the Utilities Mergers and Acquisitions team at Morgan Stanley in New York and San Francisco, and later in Debt Capital Markets at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore.

She also worked at Nokia, where she handled strategy and business development for Nokia Life Tools, an emerging-market digital content service, and later ran Vistaprint's digital business across emerging markets from Singapore, giving her direct experience running consumer platforms across multiple developing markets before returning to Bangladesh. That combination of investment banking discipline and emerging-market product experience is unusual among founders of Bangladeshi consumer platforms, most of whom come from either a purely technical or purely domestic business background.

Coming Back to Build Shohoz

Maliha M Quadir began working on Shohoz in mid-2013, and by December of that year had raised a small angel round from her network of Harvard contacts. She moved back to Bangladesh and started building the company in earnest in January 2014, soft-launching it later that year.

That international finance and strategy background gave her a very different starting point than most Bangladeshi founders tackling the country's chaotic ticketing industry at the time, one grounded in global consumer platform experience rather than local transportation expertise alone.

Digitizing an Unstructured Market

Shohoz launched around a straightforward but underserved need: buying tickets for buses, launches, and movies online rather than through informal agents and long queues. The company spent its first three years focused purely on ticketing, building a brand that became widely recognized for online transactions in a category that had previously run almost entirely offline.

In March 2018, Shohoz expanded into ride-hailing in Dhaka, transforming the company from a ticketing service into a broader mobility and logistics platform, a shift that put it in direct competition with ride-hailing entrants that had launched with mobility as their sole focus from day one.

Growing Into a Super App

Under Maliha M Quadir's leadership, Shohoz grew from an initial team of 30 employees into a company employing more than 250 people, now offering ridesharing, delivery, and travel and event ticketing under a single platform. That growth attracted some of the largest funding rounds among Bangladeshi startups at the time, capital that supported the company's expansion from a single-purpose ticketing app into a multi-service mobility platform.

That evolution from ticketing to a full super app mirrored a broader pattern among Bangladesh's most successful consumer platforms, bundling multiple daily-use services under one brand rather than staying narrowly focused.

International Recognition

In 2017, the World Economic Forum named Maliha M Quadir one of its 100 Young Global Leaders. In 2019, she won the Best Woman Entrepreneur Award at the third Digital Bangladesh Day, presented by the ICT Ministry and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, alongside The Daily Star's Best ICT Startup of the Year Award for Shohoz.

That combination of global and domestic recognition, arriving within a two-year window, reflected both Shohoz's rapid growth and Maliha M Quadir's own visibility as one of the more prominent women leading a technology company in Bangladesh.

Products

Shohoz's platform spans ticketing, ridesharing, and delivery rather than a single packaged product.

Online Ticketing is Shohoz's original service, covering bus, launch, and movie tickets, and remains the foundation the company's brand was built on.

Ride-Hailing extended the platform into mobility starting in March 2018, transforming Shohoz from a ticketing service into a broader transportation company.

Delivery Services round out the super app, letting Shohoz serve everyday logistics needs alongside its ticketing and ride-hailing products.

Across ticketing, ride-hailing, and delivery, Shohoz's super app reflects the multi-service strategy that has defined the company since its 2014 founding, now employing more than 250 people across its operations.

Life at Shohoz

Shohoz runs its operations out of Dhaka, supporting a super app platform that has grown to approximately 251 employees across four continents.
