A Founding Vision Around Farmer Income

Major General Amjad Khan Chowdhury founded PRAN-RFL Group in 1981 with a specific goal: pioneering agribusiness in Bangladesh by offering farmers guaranteed prices for their crops, a model that shaped the company's identity for decades afterward. That founding mission distinguished PRAN-RFL from a purely commercial food conglomerate from its very first years of operation, well before the company had grown into the export powerhouse it is today.

Joining the Family Business

Ahsan Khan Chowdhury attended Wartburg College in the United States before returning to Bangladesh in 1992 to join PRAN-RFL Group as a Director, working directly under his father. Ahsan Khan Chowdhury spent more than two decades working through the organization before stepping into its top leadership role, giving him direct exposure to nearly every part of the business he would eventually run.

That long apprenticeship inside the company, more than twenty years across various divisions, gave him a working knowledge of PRAN-RFL's operations that few external hires could have matched, a depth of institutional knowledge that shaped how smoothly leadership transferred once his father passed away.

Taking Over Leadership

Ahsan Khan Chowdhury was appointed Chairman and CEO of PRAN-RFL Group in 2016, following the death of his father in July 2015. He had previously served as Deputy Managing Director of the conglomerate, a role that positioned him to take over a company already operating at national scale rather than build one from scratch.

Stepping into that role meant carrying forward a specific mission his father had set decades earlier: using agribusiness to create guaranteed income for Bangladeshi farmers, not just build a large consumer goods company.

Under Ahsan Khan Chowdhury's leadership, PRAN-RFL Group has grown into the largest food and beverage brand in Bangladesh, with the group's footprint spanning food processing, beverages, plastics, and other consumer categories. The company now exports to more than 135 countries and employs over 100,000 people worldwide, scale that few Bangladeshi conglomerates have matched.

That growth has come while maintaining the group's original agribusiness identity, sourcing raw agricultural inputs domestically from Bangladeshi farmers even as its finished products reach international markets across six continents.

Ahsan Khan Chowdhury has represented PRAN-RFL Group in international forums, including participation in World Bank discussions on agribusiness and development.
