About Jatri

Jatri is a mobility technology company built to bring order to Dhaka's notoriously chaotic public bus system, offering Bangladesh's first bus tracking and digital ticketing platform. Aziz Arman co-founded the company in March 2019, betting straight out of university that software could fix a transportation problem most people treated as unsolvable.

He started Jatri while still early in his career, carrying a short but direct stretch of technical leadership experience into the company's founding.

From Student Chapter to Startup

Aziz Arman completed a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering at North South University between 2014 and 2018, where he also served as President of the university's ACM Student Chapter. Before founding Jatri, he briefly worked as Chief Technology Officer at NTRENZ from October 2018 to February 2019.

That short technical leadership stint gave him direct engineering experience just months before he set out to build his own company, a rapid transition from a first CTO role into founding a company of his own. His time leading the university's ACM Student Chapter also gave him early practice organizing technical talent around a shared goal, a skill that translated directly into recruiting Jatri's founding engineering team.

Founding Jatri

In March 2019, Aziz Arman co-founded Jatri to address Dhaka's chaotic public transportation system using technology rather than policy change alone. The platform became Bangladesh's first bus tracking and digital ticketing service, giving commuters real-time visibility into bus locations and a digital alternative to cash fares.

That focus on public buses, rather than private ride-hailing, set Jatri apart from most mobility startups in Bangladesh, which had concentrated on cars and motorbikes rather than the mass-transit system most Dhaka residents actually depend on daily for their commute.

Partnering With Bus Operators Directly

Under Aziz Arman's leadership, Jatri secured an agreement with the Dhaka Bus Owners' Association to roll out its e-ticketing system across 5,650 public buses operating in the capital. That partnership gave Jatri a path to fair, standardized pricing for riders, addressing a long-standing complaint about inconsistent bus fares in the city that had persisted for years without a clear technological fix.

Working directly with an industry association, rather than around it, meant Jatri had to build trust with bus operators who had little prior exposure to digital ticketing systems, a slower but more durable path to adoption than bypassing incumbent operators entirely.

Scaling With Investor Backing

In 2021, Jatri raised $1.2 million in a pre-Series A round from investors including Reflect Ventures, Brain-Too-Free Ventures, and SBK Tech Venture, bringing the company's total funding to $5.25 million. That capital has supported Jatri's expansion beyond its original bus-tracking product into a broader smart mobility platform.

That funding history places Jatri among the more institutionally backed transit-tech startups in Bangladesh, capital that has let the company invest in infrastructure well beyond what its original bus-tracking app required, including the systems needed to manage e-ticketing across thousands of buses simultaneously.

Where Jatri Stands Today

Aziz Arman has continued to lead Jatri's growth, and has been recognized by ACM with a Recognition of Service Award for his work applying technology to Bangladesh's public transportation challenges. Employee reviews point to a majority-positive business outlook among staff, alongside room for improvement in overall satisfaction, feedback common to fast-scaling transit-tech startups balancing rapid infrastructure rollout with day-to-day operations.

As one of the few Bangladeshi mobility startups focused specifically on public buses rather than private vehicles, Jatri occupies a distinct niche among the country's broader TravelTech and logistics sector, one built around mass-market infrastructure rather than a premium ride-hailing experience for a smaller base of riders.
