His path into entrepreneurship wasn't planned around building a company at all. It started as a side job he took on while still studying electrical and electronic engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.

A Side Project During Engineering School

While still a student in 2005, Raisul Kabir began moonlighting as a software engineer at Latitude 23, a Dhaka-based 3D visualization firm, taking on freelance work to cover his own expenses rather than pursuing anything resembling a business plan.

One project changed the direction of his career: Latitude 23 handed him a large Flash-based project for an overseas client, and Raisul Kabir put together a team of ten contractors to deliver it within three months. The client was impressed enough that Latitude 23 offered to start a business with him around that capability, and Brain Station 23 was founded in 2006 as a direct result.

Starting Small, Staying Disciplined

The company's earliest days were modest by any measure. Brain Station 23 started with a team of four, two of whom were on contract earning between BDT 10,000 and 12,000 a month. Rather than take on debt or chase outside investment, Raisul Kabir reinvested the profit from that early work to hire two more people who didn't yet have paying assignments.

That pattern, growing only as fast as the business could actually support, shaped how the company scaled for years afterward, long before it had anything close to its current headcount.

Choosing a Lane and Sticking to It

As Brain Station 23 grew, Raisul Kabir made a deliberate call to specialize in custom software services rather than build resource-intensive products of its own. He's described the reasoning bluntly in interviews: trying to compete on every front usually means competing well on none of them.
